ACADEMIC HONORS SCHOLARS requirements for GRADUATING class of 2009-2010, graduating CLASS 2010-2011, AND GRADUATING CLASS 2011-2012

effective with the Freshman Class of 2009-2010, by virtue of the Academic Honors Scholars replacing the Top Ten Percent all students (regardless of the number) will be allowed to participate who meet the following criteria.

Criteria to become an Academic Honors Scholar
  • Minimum GPA 3.5 ( not rounded up)
  • Minimum ACT Score 19
  • Students must complete requirements for University or Dual Path
  • Valedictorians and Salutatorians will be chosen from students who are Academic Honor Scholars
Course Requirements
  • English I (H), English II (H), English III (H)
  • AP English ( AP exam optional at high school, AP exam required for college credit)
  • Five Math including: Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and Trigonometry required. The fifth math must include one of the following: Pre-Calculus or D.E. Calculus or D.E. Statistics
  • Three upper level sciences including; Chemistry I required. Must choose two other upper level science requirements from: Physics, Chemistry II, Scientific Research or AP Biology (AP exam optional at high school, AP exam requires for college credit)
  • Two years of the same Foreign Language
  • One year of Arts ( Drama, Chorus, Band, Visual Arts I, Visual Arts II)
  • AP US History (AP exam optional at high school, AP exam requires for college credit)
  • World Geography or World History
  • US Government
  • Economics or Marketing I
  • Keyboarding or other upper level course in business technology
  • Wellness
Other Requirements
  • Academic Honor Scholars must attend Grundy County High School at least two years to qualify
  • If AP or other upper-level course are added, they will be added to the requirements for the Academic Honors Scholars
  • Only courses taken during the regular year ( i.e., not summer school courses) will be calculated into the final GPA
  • The GPA will be calculated based on all courses, up to the end of the first term of the senior year.
