TRUANCY

According to the State Mandatory School Attendance Law, a student is considered truant after five (5) unexcused absences. A letter will be sent to the parent or guardian of the student informing them of the child's truant status. The parent or guardian will be required to attend a Truancy Review Board hearing to discuss the issue and to explain consequences for further truancy. The board will consist of the Truancy Officer, The Youth Services Officer, the school principal, and the representative from the Department of Children's Services. After 10 unexcused absences, the parent or guardian will be petitioned to appear before the Grundy County  Juvenile Court.
