Students are expected to be in school
every day. It is recommended that students begin making up days
missed after three absences in a semester in a "Time for
Time" setting, to allow flexibility for emergencies toward the
end of the semester. This recommendation is crucial because Time for
Time sessions will stop before the actual end of first and second
semester. Unexcused absences will result in zeroes for all missed
work. To report an absence, please call 592-5408.

Excuses
for absences must be turned in to the front office NO LATE THAN
THREE (3) DAYS AFTER THE STUDENT RETURNS TO SCHOOL. Students will be
allowed 5 call-in excuses per semester (The fall semester is defined
as the academic period from august until December while the spring
semester is defined as the academic period from January until May.).
Students who are late or leave early from any class for fifteen
minutes or more are considered absent for that class period. Any
student missing more than five (5) days in a class per semester,
excused or unexcused, will be required to appear before the High
School Attendance Committee with parent/guardian. The committee
will consist of four high school teachers, on high school
administrator and two student government leaders. If the committee
sees justification for these absences then additional "Time for
Time' can be given to make up those absences. If this committee is
not satisfied with the explanation, the student will not receive
credit in the class(es) in which he/she missed in excess of five (5)
days.
-
Students
must have completed work missed during an excused absence within
three (3) days after returning to school.
-
Any
student who has excessive absences due to extenuating circumstances
may request an Attendance Review Board hearing.
-
Student
will be warned verbally after the third absence in a nine-week
period by the teacher. Parents will be notified by telephone and/or
letter at this time by the office.
-
The
third tardy or early dismissal will be considered and absence, which
exhibits lack of participation.
-
Any
day missed during which a student is representing the school must be
approved in advance. The student will be counted present for that
day.
-
Students
will be allowed only two (2) non-competition academically associated
SDA's (School Day Absences) per semester (See SDA).
-
Any
student who has a medical condition that will require him/her to
miss ten (10) or more consecutive days should request homebound services
by contacting the Grundy County Central Office at 692-3467.
For
questions regarding attendance call 692-5408.
