letter TO parents AND students

 August 2009

Dear Parents and Students of Grundy County High School:

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 2009-2010 school year at Grundy County High School. It is with great anticipation that we look toward the many opportunities and challenges facing us in a new school year. It is our hope that each student realizes the importance of the four years spent in high school and will give his or her best effort in preparing for a successful future. Grundy County High School offers academic programs to meet the various needs of all students. Students who are willing to work and to apply themselves can achieve.

All incoming freshmen (2009-2010) must select a Program of Study (POS) from the Tennessee State approved list of Programs offered at Grundy County High School. All other students currently enrolled (Grades 10-12) at GCHS will continue to follow and graduate under their previously selected path of study --university, technical, or dual.

Our expectations will be high, but they will be reasonable and fair. No matter how difficult you might find some of the challenges at Grundy County High School, the future holds even greater and more difficult ones. If you leave Grundy County High School well prepared, it will make those future challenges easier to meet and ensure success after high school.

We believe the difference between a good school and a great school is the difference made by our parents. Parents should take an active role in collaborating with your student in his/her decision in selecting between the university, technical or dual paths of study. Many of our students will need guidance and encouragement from their parents to ensure school responsibilities are being met. Our staff at Grundy County High School needs your alliance in seeing that our students commit to the work ethic required to meet higher expectations.

Parents and students are asked to review the student handbook and become familiar with our school policies an procedures. Special note should be taken of the student dress code. Policies and decisions are made based on the premise that the parents of our community desire and even demand a school which is safe, disciplined, applies rules fairly and consistently, and is committed to academic excellence. We appreciate the support from our parents in maintaining the proper environment for our students and the joint effort in making such opportunities a learning experience, which will benefit the student later in life. Our school and community expect a well-behaved, academically focused environment for learning. We will never receive more than we expect. We hope each parent will work with the school staff in keeping a learning environment many schools only dream about. Your support will benefit all of us. We hope you will take pride in our school and help us to make it even better.

We hope this year will be very enjoyable and successful for all of our students. We are here to assist you in any way possible.
